TASTY TIP TUESDAYS: The Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar
Hi Foodies,
In today's tasty tip, I wanted to highlight my favourite multi purpose food, that is, apple cider vinegar. I've been using it for years to clean and clarify my scalp. ACV, as it's affectionately known in the natural hair community, and how I will be referring to it throughout the rest of this post, has been a staple for many black women with natural hair. I had no idea that it had such great health benefits whenever ingested.
According to a Healthline about the liquid, here are some of the health benefits of ACV:
- It lowers blood pressure
- It stops craving
- It increases ones feeling of being satiated or "being full" after eating
And lastly, and this is the best one, it decreases belly fat. I, for one, know that plenty of my belly fat cells could do with a few teaspoons of apple cider vinegar a day. I usually take three teaspoons of apple cider vinegar a day. For those that might not like the taste, here are three healthy and tasty ways to consume three teaspoons of apple cider vinegar each day:
Put it in a Smoothie
If you are a smoothie lover, just add one teaspoon of ACV to it. You can hardly taste the tartness of it, and it adds to the healthiness of your smoothie. Who doesn't like an extra kick of healthiness.
ACV Dressing
This one I do quite often, and it's quite delicious. I mix a teaspoon of ACV with some olive oil, salt, black pepper and cayenne pepper to make a delicious, healthy dressing. I'll put this on a salad, or simply drizzle it on sliced cucumbers. The latter is one of my favourite snacks and it's super tasty.
Hot water and ACV
This one I drink in the morning and it makes me run to the loo quickly. I pour hot water in a large mug and add a teaspoon of ACV. Sometimes I drop a slice of lemon in there when I feel like. After drinking that in the morning, I have a swift bowel movement. It may be a good remedy for constipation. Try it and see what happens.
ACV can also be used in a sitz bath with salt. I take regular sitz baths once in a while just to maintain the health of my nether regions. I am convinced that they have helped to balance the ph down that, and it has also been proven to help treat haemorrhoids and vaginal infections. I usually add a cup of salt and a tablespoon on ACV to a hot bath and sit in it for about 10 to 15 minutes. It also makes my skin feel silky smooth.
And that's it for this week's tasty tip. Remember to take care of yourselves and eat well.
